Hi, I'm Minnie.

When I retired as a transcriptionist/word processor at age 68, I wasn't doing anything constructive and although I can't say enough good about volunteer work, it isn't my "cup of tea."  I am also not a social butterfly. I had always liked writing and had always been around words, so I returned to school to earn my undergraduate degree and study writing.

I wanted to graduate from our daughter's alma mater, Texas Woman's University, and because I knew it to be a good school, I enrolled.  Unfortunately, TWU's journalism department was being phased out and only two journalism courses were available.  I took them as electives, concentrating on a Bachelors of General Studies degree with emphasis on journalism, English and business.  I graduated from TWU at age 73 in 2006 with a 3.23 GPA.  Because TWU's and the University of North Texas' courses are interchangeable, I also took three journalism courses and one business course at UNT in 2005 and 2006.

Two weeks after my undergraduate degree, I accepted a writing position with a startup online Dallas publication, Pegasus News.  I will always be grateful to then President Mike Orren for hiring me.  I remained there until I decided to get my masters in journalism at UNT.  Unfortunately, because I am not a math whiz, I failed the math portion of the GRE.

And, so, my world of freelance writing/copy editing began along with my search for potential publications.  An UNT undergraduate professor told me "Write, write, write!  It doesn't matter what kind of publication, the more you write the better you become."

In 2019, I enrolled in the UNT graduate Mass Communication Program until 2020 (4.0 GPA), when they discontinued my online courses. I took one semester Communcation Graduate Degree at Southern New Hampshire University (4.0 GPA). On Dec. 17, 2023, I earned my Masters in Interdisciplinary studies, focusing on writing, with a GPA of 3.88 from the University of North Texas.

I love writing/copy editing and want to prove myself.  Because I have worked with words 43 years, 30 years as a transcriptionist/word processor and 13 years as a freelance writer/copy editor, I am well versed.  Although "perfectionist" and "patient" describe me, as with any artist, I always ask "Have I done my best?"

Will you please allow me to prove that I am a good writer/copy editor?  Thank you.
